Handbook of Research on Knowledge Management Tools in Higher Education:

Book Theme

Introduction

Institutions of Higher Education are the knowledge centers for the society at large. They pursue key initiatives for developing future generations of scholars and practitioners. The teaching – learning is a process of Knowledge sharing among the students. The Knowledge Management (KM) principles, strategies, models, tools, and techniques have proven themselves in business and industry. More recently KM has emerged as an essential enabler for the successful pursuit of scholarly activities in higher education. As such, this handbook of research is focused on research pertaining to the adoption of KM principles, strategies, models, tools, and techniques in higher education.
The purpose of this book is to present an opportunity for both academic and practitioner scholars to publish original, unpublished research articles related to knowledge management in higher education. An academic institution has multiple stakeholders -- faculty, students, management, staff, regulatory bodies, and others. The primary activities at such institutions -- research, teaching, learning, and service -- are the result of multiple, interconnected processes that involve these stakeholders such as those related to scholarly research and teaching, student enrollment, retention, graduation, and placement, institution and program administration, fundraising, grants processing, facilities management, alumni relationship management, and so on. Knowledge management has significant contributions to make in capturing, storing, processing, and disseminating knowledge between and across these stakeholder entities and their processes to better support these inter-related processes and stakeholder activities. Given the impetus provided by the United Nations - Global Knowledge Economy Policy, countries worldwide are actively pursuing the use of Knowledge Management in all facets of economic development. The importance of KM research and application in academia is a critical element of this multifaceted endeavor.
